Periodontal Disease

Overview

Periodontal Disease, also known as gum disease, is a bacterial infection that can threaten the tissue that surrounds your teeth. It can also cause tooth loss in some cases. Gum disease can be treated if it is caught by a professional. At Reavley Dental, we assess your complete oral health each time you come in for a cleaning. We check and see if there is any sign of gum disease. If we notice inflammation, tissue damage, or any other signs of gum disease, we will suggest Periodontal Therapy. Remember, even children can suffer from Gingivitis, the most common form of gum disease.

Therapy Options

There are a few different options that can be utilized to treat gum disease and help keep your smile healthy and bright. The treatment option that is best for you will be selected based on how advanced your gum disease issues are.

  • Prophylactic Cleaning: If the disease is identified in the early stage, referred to as Gingivitis, additional regular cleanings will be scheduled to treat the issue completely. We will also help you to start a home dental care plan to ensure that no further gum disease issues occur.
  • Scaling & Root Planing (Deep Cleaning): This is a cleaning technique that involves tartar removal from below the gum line. Plaque and tartar are removed by using ultrasonic instruments and hand scalers.
